What is GIA
The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) is an organization dedicated to research and education in the field of gemology and the jewelry arts.
GIA is highly respected for its integrity, academics, and scientific rigor and offers various services including gemstone grading and certification, education courses, and instruments for gemological research.
With a global presence, GIA’s expertise continues to be influential in maintaining trust and standards within the international gem and jewelry market.
GIA focuses mainly on the certification of diamonds and colored gemstones (rubies, emeralds, sapphires, and pearls).
Does GIA certify moldavites?
If you look at the GIA price list, you will find various gems, but there is no mention of moldavites certification (identification report).
But there is a section for other materials where you can find prices depending on the weight of the stone. From $70 to $225 for 500 ct stones (100 g) – prices for 2023.
The price of moldavite certification (identification) will therefore be at least 70 USD for the smallest moldavites + shipping fees.
How does the GIA certification work?

In short, you create a “memo” on the web and then send the moldavite with the documents to the GIA. They will do the identification (create a report – certificate) and send the moldavite back to you.
